Dear members of the HSP community,
We’re delighted to be able to get in touch and ask you to Save the Date for the 35th Annual Conference on Human Sentence Processing, hosted by the University of California, Santa Cruz.
HSP2022 will take place 24 - 26 March, 2022
Virtual Core. We are committed to hosting a conference that is completely accessible to anyone who wishes to, or who must, participate virtually. Our priority is ensuring equity of access to attendees, regardless of whether they attend virtually or in-person. This includes making presentations, asking questions and participating in mentorship or other community activities. Plenary presentations, poster sessions, and workshop components will be managed via an online platform.
In-person Satellite. At the same time, our community has not had the opportunity to come together for unstructured, informal interactions in-person for over two years. We would like to take steps to make these more ephemeral community-building connections possible, while also being sensitive to the on-going uncertainty and travel limitations that many of our would-be participants may still be experiencing.
For this reason, we invite anyone who is interested to physically come to Santa Cruz and participate in our in-person UC Santa Cruz Satellite meeting on the same dates. At this satellite event, there will be social activities in addition to viewing of the plenary presentations and the technical setup necessary to deliver presentations & ask questions (we're still working out the exact details!). We would also like to encourage researchers across the globe to think about putting on local satellite events, so that participants who would like to join in-person community activities can do so with more flexibility; less travel and its ensuing environmental impact; and with responsiveness to the different local contexts that may arise in the coming year.
Indicate your interest. As a preliminary step, we’d like to ask for expressions of interest in either being a virtual participant or joining the UCSC satellite event. Please respond to this Google form, which has 1 required question:
Current Participation Preference HSP2022
We all understand that this is necessarily subject to change as conditions do (and are!). It will help us rough out our plans to get a sense of the distribution, though.
We look forward to sharing more information with you in the Fall, including the formal call for abstracts and the program of invited presenters.

PS You can bookmark this page (or join the group) for an archive of all conference-related announcements.
PPS If you have even a slight inclination to visit Santa Cruz to participate in-person, you might consider making a (cancellable, non-pre-paid) reservation now. Coastal California hotel prices rise quickly! Some good places to look now are Mission Inn, Hampton Inn Santa Cruz West, or Fairfield Santa Cruz. We'll remind you again in the Fall.
