THE TRIAL OF THEMISTOCLES:

Relive the National Hellenic Museum's Trial of Themistocles

Hero or Traitor? You Decide.

Relive the National Hellenic Museum's acclaimed production of The Trial of Themistocles on Lakeshore Public Media, presented live last year at the Harris Theater Chicago.

One of ancient Athens' most celebrated yet controversial figures, Themistocles transformed Athens into the ancient world's foremost naval power and led the Greek victory at the Battle of Salamis. Yet later, he was accused of betraying Athens when he entered the service of the Persian King Artaxerxes I.

Did personal ambition outweigh public service? Or was he one of history's greatest patriots?

Watch on Lakeshore Public Media.

Premieres Friday, July 17 | 8:30 PM CT

Encore Tuesday, July 21 | 11:00 PM CT

The National Hellenic Museum and the Swedish American Museum are partnering for the next installment of Museums in Conversation through July and August 2026. This collaboration’s theme, Chicago as a Cultural Hub, will highlight how immigrant communities have shaped the city through traditions, institutions, and the arts.

Throughout the remainder of the summer, members at the NHM and SAMAC will have reciprocal membership while visiting each Museum and are invited to join specially curated programming at an inclusive member rate.

This collaboration’s special programming includes a Family Free Day at the Swedish American Museum, a craft night to learn about cross stitch and weaving at the National Hellenic Museum, and an online community discussion focusing on the role of immigrant communities and how they shaped Chicago neighborhoods.

Join us for our special programs with the Swedish American Museum this July and August!
