This webinar examines the relationship between Greek diasporas and colonialisms. Our speakers, Penelope Papailias (University of Thessaly), Andonis Piperoglou (University of Melbourne) and Eftychia Mylona (University of Cyprus), will explore how distinct Greek diasporas have formed, interacted and responded to past and ongoing forms of coloniality. Interested in how studies of Greek diasporas can engage in generative dialogue with decolonial scholarly practice, the webinar, which will be moderated byAnastasia Chrisou (University of Middlesex), will draw attention to competing and overlapping discourses on how Greece and Greek people relate to histories colonialisms. We aim to reconsider histories of Greek migration and diasporization and at stimulating interdisciplinary exchange that reimagines global Greeks diasporas through a decolonial lens. In doing so, this webinar strives to explore the various tensions that arise when attempting to decolonise studies of Greek diasporas, whilst also showcasing the plurality of Greek diasporic entanglements with past and ongoing colonialisms.

Warm greetings and warm wishes for the spring,
