Dear MGSA members & friends,
I hope this message finds you all well.
At its last meeting, our MGSA Executive Committee approved administrative changes and some targeted increases to our Association’s membership dues. These changes will take effect for the calendar year 2026, and members will be able to sign up for the new categories as early as October 1, 2025. We will send out a message with details of the relevant web link to our updated membership page in the coming days.
After careful consideration, the Association decided to transition to a 2-year income-based membership fee structure. For some years now, a majority of our members have already preferred this 2-year payment option. Administratively, this option also works well for the Association too. Our goal, then, is to exclusively implement this two-year membership while ensuring that this does not result in any cost increase for members in the lower salary category ranges. To this end, the currently available 2-year membership for graduate students (as well as those members earning less than $25,000 per year) will remain as is: at $50 for two years. By the same token, the current 2-year Regular Member bracket priced at $100 will remain unchanged for those members earning between $25,000 - $50,000 per year.
Those earning more than $50,000 per year, however, will see a modest increase in their dues relative to a tiered salary bracket. The 2-year subscription rates for those in higher salary ranges are set out in the table at the end of this message. It has been many years since the last time that the MGSA approved fee increases, and the Association takes this action now not only to meet the considerable costs of inflation but to enhance our current offerings and initiatives.
Two other special categories will also see an increase in rates. In the case of the first special category, Institutional Membership, please note new opportunities that now come with this affiliation.
Institutional Membership will now be set at $300 for a two-year affiliation. This membership category will now also include free registration for one administrator OR two students at the MGSA Symposium. Affiliated institutions will also have the opportunity to propose a co-sponsored panel at the MGSA Symposium. Our MGSA Membership Committee will be sending out a letter of invitation to institutions with additional details about these and other opportunities shortly.
Lifetime membership will also be raised to a one time payment of $1,200. For several years, this option has been priced at a considerably lower rate than is typical at other comparable scholarly associations. The Lifetime Membership includes subscription to the Journal of Modern Greek Studies: it remains a worthwhile investment and represents a meaningful commitment to the organization.
