Since the late 1960s, the MGSA has been holding the oldest and largest international symposium focused on modern Greek studies. Every two years, scholars from all over the world gather to hear the latest in contemporary scholarship and new ideas, as well as enjoy cultural offerings such as exhibits, concerts and readings.
Hosting a symposium offers your local program the opportunity to highlight the work you do in modern Greek studies both to our MGSA community of scholars, as well as to your own institution! Keep in mind, this call is not only for major universities. In fact, smaller colleges and programs have also been successful in hosting the symposia. (For a list of universities and colleges that have hosted the symposia, see:
https://mgsa.org/Initiatives/symposia.html)
If you are interested in hosting the 2028 symposium, we invite you to send an expression of interest to the MGSA Executive Director, Vangelis Calotychos (
vangelis_...@brown.edu). We will then follow up with a more detailed survey for information. The deadline for submissions of interest is Monday,
September 14, 2026.
On behalf of the Executive Board, I hope you strongly consider this invitation.
Warm Regards,
Katerina Lagos
MGSA President
