Lily was the first female president of the MGSA, indeed, in the late 1970s.
We remember her fondly. I attach a picture.

It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Lily Macrakis. Her many contributions to the Modern Greek Studies Association left a lasting impact, and the Association is stronger today because of her dedication and leadership.

In memoriam A. Lily Macrakis on the MGSA homepage:

https://www.mgsa.org/

As well as serving as the MGSA first female President (1977-79), Lily also enthusiastically served on the Local Arrangements Committees of many symposia, and, with grace and vision, she chaired the committees for memorable symposia held at Harvard University in 1971 and 1995. We honor her lifetime of scholarship, mentorship, and collegiality; she inspired many students and scholars in Boston, Athens, and beyond.

I share an Robin Fleming's intellectual biography of Lily from the Classics@Journal at the Center for Hellenic Studies:

The article includes photographs of Lily down the years. "All unreferenced material in the essay is based on fifteen hours of interviews conducted in October 2009, further interviews in September 2011, or on the photographs and papers held in the personal collection of A.L. Macrakis. Further details of her life, not covered in the recent interviews, and which are referenced, can be found in the transcription of a long interview of Lily, undertaken in 1961, while she was a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute, and now housed in the Schlesinger Library (Schlesinger Library, Harvard University, RG XXVIII, Ser. 5.4, Box 7, “Macrakis, Aglaia Lily #8, hereafter referred to as “1961 interview”).

I did not know Lily had passed.  I first met her when she audited the first survey of Modern Greek literature upon George Savidis's arrival at Harvard way back in 1977.  Though a professor herself, she loved being a student and reached out to us (younger) students.
She was always warm and had intelligent things to say.
She loved the MGSA.
May her memory be eternal!

Thank you, Vangeli, for this.

All of us who were fortunate enough to have come across Professor Macrakis's path over the years know and remember very well her indefatigable efforts to steer the MGSA democratically and to put Modern Greek Studies on the intellectual map of anglophone academia.

Καλό ταξίδι της,

I use people-centered language (incarcerated people, people on parole, people in prison) for people in the legal system. I oppose objectifying language
(inmates, prisoners, convicts, felons, offenders, parolees, etc., cf. https://cmjcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/CNUS-AppropriateLanguage.pdf)
