The JMGS Editorial team is pleased to announce a new section of the journal entitled “Research Notes."
This section is designed for concise, focused presentations that make an empirical or a theoretical contribution aligned with the JMGS’s mission. The presentations are shorter than articles (3,000-5,000 words). They may be grounded in a discipline, but they must contribute new insights, frameworks, or interpretations that enrich dialogue, enhance or reshape understanding in Modern Greek Studies, and stimulate further exploration with implications for current and future research. Research notes, identified thus in their title, are submitted to the JMGS ScholarOne platform following the procedure of any JMGS article submission. They undergo peer review.
Empirical contributions present a little-known document (all media and formats) that merits the attention of the broader readership and opens the path for new insights and further exploration in the broader field. Submissions must include (1) a photocopy of the document; (2) extended summary of the document and its find spot; (3) introductory statement of 1,000-3,000 words, with a sample portion of the document, contextualizing, articulating the significance, and anticipating uses of the document; (4) information about the copyright status allowing publication. If the document is not in Greek or English, and/or it is difficult to read, the proposal should include (up to) a 1,000-word transliteration / translation either by the author of the note or by a designated translator.
Theoretical contributions offer insights from the analysis of rich research material that can trigger the development of theory and methodological approaches.
The JMGS editors anticipate publishing no more than 1-3 Research Notes per issue during a trial period in 2025-2026.
The JMGS author guidelines will be revised within the next month to reflect the change. In the meantime, the invitation to submit has opened as of today.
Sincerely,
