Hi all,

After meeting with Rongwen, I learned the following:

To save physio log files for your scan runs

To begin recording before a given scan run:

  1. CTRL + ESC
  2. Launch the Command prompt
  3. > ideacmdtool [ENTER]
  4. > 1 [ENTER to select PMU]
  5. > 2 [ENTER to select PMU logging]
  6. > 8 [ENTER to start collecting pulse data], see other numbers to select respiration, ECG, etc...
  7. > [Type in a desired filename to save to and press ENTER]

*run your scan*

Then, to end recording after a given scan run and save log file:

Repeat steps 1-5 above

> 9 [ENTER to stop pulse logging], see other numbers to select respiration, ECG, etc...

Siemens sequence data saves to: C:\MedCom\log\

        Minnesota sequences save to: C:\MedCom\log\Physio

Save a copy of the file to your records and leave the logs on the computer

Finish:

Press q and ENTER in the command window until command window is back to the medtools menu and exit

Data notes for .puls files, for example:

Trig codes demarcate volumes within the .puls file (see numbers 5002 and 6002, which mark the end and start of volume acquisitions) and the word “Trig” is embedded in the data before each volume acquisition

Thanks for posting this for all to see.  FWIW, you don't need to fully "Repeat steps 1-5" as that command window should still be alive and active.  Just use Alt-Tab to switch from the main MR console software to the command window.

FYI that the sequence from CMRR(Minnesota) group can log the physiological data automatically (no need to use the ideacmdtool). The log options are under “Sequence/Special Card” >> Physio recording. Thanks Emily for reminding me about this. The log files will be saved in the folder as Sarah mentioned.  The file format is slightly different to the Siemens one. Just let me know if you need help to read those log files.

Please also keep in mind that there is a time limit (5 min) for recording everything (ECG/RESP/PULSE) at once for using either the Siemens’ sequence or the CMRR sequence. In this case, you will need to use the Siemens’ sequence and to enable/disable the phsio recordings separately using the “ideacmdtool” method.

Best,
Rongwen

Can one collect 7-8 minutes of continuous pulse data if that is the only signal being collected?

Hi Rongwen and Craig,

Do you know the sampling frequency for the physio recording? Some Siemens sites say 50Hz but from the data I collected I am guessing it is 400 or 500 Hz?

Thanks!

Yup, I don’t know why they say 50Hz but the data show that the sampling rate is 400Hz (2.5ms).
