With the construction of the FIBRE MRI facility, UCI has built a state-of-the-art research MRI that is now serving the campus-wide imaging community well. Our Philips MRI scanner at the NIC has served us well for many years, but it is time to shift our resources fully to FIBRE. We have been tracking use at the NIC and working with labs who have been finishing up projects on that scanner, ensuring that it remain operational during necessary transition times. But, the time for shutting down the NIC MRI facility is rapidly approaching.

We aim to close the facility on May 15. The magnet will not be quenched that day, but we aim to cease all new scanning on the magnet then. If we have somehow missed your lab's needs in our planning for this and if you have any scans that must still happen on the Philips MRI, please let us know ASAP so that we can work with you and address needs as best as possible.
