Install with miniconda and python 3.12

Hi-- I'm installing wrf-python on linux with miniconda and python v3.12 getting the error message below. Is wrf-python compatible with 3.12 or is there some other issue? Thanks.

OK, so it appears that wrf-python is incompatible with python 3.12 due to dependence on numpy.distutils, which has been removed from 3.12.
conda install -c conda-forge wrf-python
This works, but requires managing a second conda environment:
conda create --name wrfpy -c conda-forge python=3.11
conda activate wrfpy
conda activate wrfpy
conda install -c conda-forge wrf-python
