Hello All,

I am trying to use the ArcGIS tools as shown in the youtube tutorial here, but the script on my computer will not finish running the "Process GEOGRID File" script. I have ArcGIS 10.7.1 on my local machine, and I get separate errors for running the script in ArcCatalog as user or as administrator. I also tried running this on a separate computer in my department on ArcGIS 10.5.1 and got a different error. These error messages are attached.

The only error message I was able to find a reference for was "No raster store is configurated" [sic]. A web search indicated that this was related to an issue with ArcGIS rasters that was addressed in a software patch. The patch didn't resolve my issue.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any thoughts to resolve this?

Best,
David

David,

I have not seen this one before.

  1. 1. In your first image, "Failure in ArcGIS 10.7.1 – run as user", it looks as though you do not have access to write to that directory. The script is simply trying to open a blank ASCII file to start writing the tool messages to. I cannot tell what directory you have selected for your output ZIP file, but this seems to be a restricted directory.
  2. In your second image, "Failure in ArcGIS 10.7.1 – run as", the tool fails at the "Fill" stage. The Fill tool is in the Spatial Analyst toolbox. Is it possible that when you run as Administrator, you do not have the Spatial Analyst Extension enabled? Check the Extensions > Spatial Analyst and make sure it is activated and licensed, even when you are running ArcCatalog as administrator.
  3. In your third image, "Failure in ArcGIS 10.5.1 – run as administrator", this is a very generic Esri error, and can be difficult to diagnose. It does look as though the script mostly completed. Did you check your output directory to see if the results are there, or in a 'scratchdir' subdirectory? It's possible that the script nearly completed but did not zip up the outputs.

If you can find a copy of ArcGIS Pro, the tools seem to run pretty well in that environment. We have also recently released a beta version of open-source command-line WRF-Hydro GIS Pre-processing tools. I can add you as a beta tester if you prefer that environment.

Hello Kevin,

Good diagnosis for issue 1 above. I had the error creating the zip in this folder

C:\Users\Admin\Documents\ArcGIS\GIS_Preprocessor_Test_Data\Croton_Lambert

but not in this folder

C:\Users\Admin\Desktop

David,

Would you mind posting the log file you get out of your incomplete tool executions? A screenshot of the Process GEOGRID File tool window, where the tool inputs and options are visible, might also be useful.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hello Kevin,
The incomplete executions didn't produce any log files. Below is the input window with the settings used in the incomplete runs. I only changed the output to get a successful run.

David,

I cannot see the image you pasted (it is blank whenever I try to access it). Could you send it as an attachment?

David,

I suggest that you provide a full path to the Output ZIP File parameter. If you do not, it will default to the default working directory, which is often a GeoDatabase. You cannot write files such as GeoTiff, etc. (our intermediate raster format) into a GeoDatabase. If you provide a full path such as C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\wrf_hydro_routing_grids.zip, the tool may work.
