Hello everyone,

I'm currently working on converting ERA5-Land reanalysis data into the WRF-Hydro input format (specifically LDASIN/HRLDAS) using the Meteorological Forcing Engine (MFE). After several attempts, I haven't been able to successfully generate the required forcing files from the ERA5-Land dataset.

ERA5-Land provides enhanced land surface variables at higher spatial resolution (0.1° × 0.1°) compared to standard ERA5, which should be particularly beneficial for hydrological modeling applications. However, I'm encountering challenges in the conversion process.

If anyone has experience using MFE to convert ERA5-Land data into WRF-Hydro format, I would greatly appreciate any guidance, configuration examples, or best practices you could share. Specifically, I'm interested in:

  • Proper variable mapping between ERA5-Land and WRF-Hydro requirements
  • Configuration file setup for ERA5-Land input
  • Any preprocessing steps needed for ERA5-Land data
  • Common issues and their solutions when working with this dataset

Thank you very much for your time and any assistance you can provide.

Best regards,
