I’m pleased to announce the release of the WRF-Hydro Modeling System, version 5.4!

This was over a year in the making and has several new features and many small enhancements and bug fixes. In addition, this is the first release to use ReadTheDocs to host our updated and overhauled documentation, which is a major improvement. For more details, please see the README.md and NEWS.md files included with the model code.

Also, please note that starting with WRF-Hydro v5.4, CMake (https://cmake.org) is the preferred build system. The legacy configure/compile scripts are still present, but should be considered deprecated and will not be supported in the future.

I’d like to extend a big "thank you” to our developers, partners, and users across the community and the world. You are the reason for our success!

Is this compatible with 4.6.1 or 4.7.0?

Hi Will,

The WRF-Hydro v5.4.0 release is compatible with both WRF v4.6.1 and the upcoming v4.7.0 release. WRF v4.7.0 has enhancements and bug fixes for the build system so we can't guarantee that Intel's new ifx compiler will build on all systems, there have been cases where it won't compile on personal machines. If you have any more questions please let us know!

Cheers,
Soren

Hi,
Can this version simulate lakes with the non-UDMP reach-based channel routing? That capability was not included in version 5.2 or version 5.3 and I'm wondering if it works in version 5.4.

Yes, non-UDMP reach-based lakes now work again in this version. This should have been in the release notes but it looks like we missed it!

There is a small test case domain (`ReachLakes`) in the Croton NY Training Example that you can use as a starting point.
