Hello everyone,

I am encountering an issue while running a WRF-Hydro simulation and would appreciate any guidance or suggestions.

The simulation stops with the following fatal error:

In module_HYDRO_drv.F aggregateDomain() - SMCMAX exceeded upon aggregation.

Prior to the fatal error, the log repeatedly displays messages such as:

SMC = SICE, soil layer totally frozen, proceeding...
SMCRT fully depleted upon disaggregation...
SH2O = 0.00000000
SMC = SICE = 0.466950834
VEGTYP = 17

The model eventually terminates with the SMCMAX exceeded error during the aggregation step.

For this simulation, I have modified and attached the GENPARM.TBL file that I am using. All other parameter tables (TBL files) are the default versions distributed with WRF-Hydro.

I would like to understand:

  1. What typically causes the "SMCMAX exceeded upon aggregation" error?
  2. Could this be related to frozen soil conditions indicated by the preceding log messages?
  3. Are there any specific parameters in GENPARM.TBL or other configuration settings that I should examine?
  4. Has anyone encountered a similar issue and found an effective solution?

I have attached the GENPARM.TBL file for reference. Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

Sai
