Good morning everyone,

My name is Will Hatheway and I am creating self installing WRF scripts for
the atmospheric community.  Over the last several months I have been
bashing my head against the WRF trying to get it to install.  After a few
weeks of that I was able to get it to install finally.  I realized that I
could share my experience with others and help them by creating a script to
help new WRF users in the future.  I have 3 scripts already that install
the WRF-ARW and WRF-CHEM on Linux 32/64bit and macOS.  They can be found on my GitHub here (https://github.com/whatheway)

Now I want to move onto  WRF-HYDRO.  I am looking for someone who is familiar with the WRF-HYDRO to help me edit my scripts that I already have.  I have read that the WRF-HYDRO has more libraries, pre/post processing programs, etc then either ARW or CHEM.  That is why I am asking for help on this project.

I am doing this to better the atmospheric community and not for self gain or
promotion.  However I will definitely give anyone credit in the comments of
the script for helping.

Please let me know if you are able to help me.

Regards,
Will

Hi Will,

My name is Dave Gochis, the PI on the NCAR WRF-Hydro team and I think we would be able to help you out a bit on this.  I first have a question which is where you heard the comment "I have read that the WRF-HYDRO has more libraries, pre/post processing programs, etc then either ARW or CHEM."?  While our pre/post-processing tool suite does utilize many more software tools and packages (e.g. ArcGIS, qGIS, R, python) and are not "code build" applications per se, the actual WRF-Hydro (Fortran) model code has less dependencies and is far easier and shorter to compile than typical WRF applications, particularly WRF-CHEM.  As such, I'm curious to know where that perception comes from and what may be leading people to that conclusion.

As for building the code, we have a large amount of build documentation on our WRF-Hydro website that is complete with user support pages and a host of "getting started" materials.  Generally if WRF is already built, then installing WRF-Hydro becomes very simple.  Please take a look at those materials and let us know what questions you have.

I can appreciate this service you are doing for the community.  This should have good value in helping a lot of people out.

Best,
Dave

Dear Will,

great effort that everyone surely appreciates! We made a wiki in order to install and configure WRF-hydro. The only disadvantage, it's written in spanish.
In case you are familiar with spanish or would like to translate the text, perhaps it could be useful. I attached the .html (without style sheets) to this message.

good luck!

Thorsten

Good evening Thorsten,

Thank you for the wiki link.  I can read some spanish so I will try to use your wiki link to translate it.

Hopefully I will have a working WRF-HYDRO script in the next few weeks.

Thanks,
Will

Good afternoon  Thorsten,

Could you send me the installation instructions you mentioned again?  I can't seem to find it.  I am going to try to make a hydro script this week since I am off work due to a car wreck.
