Hi everyone,
I hope you are doing great!
I could successfully install, compile, configure and run the WRF-Hydro version 5.2.0 in standalone mode with the example test case (Croton River, NY). But when I tried to run it with my domain of interest (Uruguay River Basin), idealized forcing data and only LSM I got the error below:

NetCDF: Not a valid ID

 ***** READ_HRLDAS_HDRINFO:  Problems finding dimension 'west_east'

STOP FATAL ERROR: Model stopped
am also attaching the two namelist files that I edited
Any idea on how to fix the error?
Any help will be apreciated

Catalina,

It looks like your geo_em file does not have the dimension 'west_east'. Did you generate your domain using WPS?

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your quick reply
I did create the geogrid file using WPS and until now I didn't get errors while working with the geogrid file
(i tried to open it with R version 3.6.3 but got an error while executing the line nc_open after lodaing the libreary ncdf4)

It sounds like this file is corrupt. Can you try to re-generate it?

Can you provide the screen print from 'ncdump geo_em.d02.nc' and 'ncdump wrfinput_d02.nc'. I have a feeling one of these files is corrupted. These will both need to contain dimensions west_east and south_north and have the same size in each dimension.

Hi Kevin
I apologize for the delay in responding. I am sending you  screenshoots of the 'ncdump geo_em.d02.nc'  command  (in a compressed file) and a screenshot of the 'ncdump wrfinput_d02.nc' command
Screenshot for ncdump geo_em.d02.nc.zip
Screenshot for ncdump wrinput_d02.nc.png

Catalina,

I could only see the screenshot for the wrfinput file, but it is clear this file is corrupted.  When you generate the geo_em file using WPS, do you get any output from the executable saying the file was generated successively?

Hi Kevin,
I get to outputs and both say successful completion of geogrid. I am attaching both files (run_geogrid.log and geogrid.log)
geogrid.log
run_geogrid.log

Catalina,

Can you stage your geogrid and wrfinput files somewhere so that I can inspect them? I am truly not sure what is going on with these files. I wanted to check something else as well. In your namelist.wps file, what value do you have for the option `IO_FORM_GEOGRID`?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your reply. I tried to regenerate all the input files for WRF-Hydro in Ubuntu instead of Windows, but I got errors I could not solve.
So we decided to change the topic of the thesis with my director so we stopped using WRF-Hydro (We had spent two years trying to run the model in the Uruguay river basin in Windows and could not make it).
But still, thank you very much for your help.
Cheers,
Catalina.

Catalina,

Wow, I'm very sorry to hear this. If you or your director wish to revisit WRF-Hydro for your use case in the future, I'm sure we can get you on the right path. If Windows is a hard requirement, then there is a container image that we use for training that could be used to run WRF-Hydro in a Windows environment using Docker. Let us know if that interests you in the future.
