Hello, everyone. Thank you for allowing me to join this group.
I have been reading the WRF emissions guide, and I want  to be able to use my own emissions inventory in a 1km * 1 km domain.
I am confused as to the approach I should t  take to be able to feed my data into  WRF-CHEM:
a) Should I have emissions of species in the format like EDGAR, RETRO, and simply use prep chem src (Simple text files with latitude and longitude)?
b) Or the NEI emission inventory which I found to be rather complicated (lat-long in one folder and emissions in the other, and some other fortran files were in there too - downloaded from ftp server 'emissions_data_2005')? Also the emiss_v03. F doesn't seem t
o be applicable for domain sizes less than 12 km.
Has anyone ever tried inserting custom emissions data into WRF-CHEM? It would be great if you could guide me.  Thanks.

Sincerely,
Rupa.

Hello Rupa

you might want to check out the anthro_emis and EPA_anthro_emis tools we provide on our website whether you can adapt those for your needs:

We cannot help you with emiss_v03. F or prep_chem_src since these tools have not been developed by our team.

Dear Alice

the anthro_emis and epa_anthro_emis tools on our website work with the provided emissions inputs and unfortunately we cannot help you with adapting them to other inventories. Please note that prep_chem_sources is not a tool that our group has developed and you will have to direct any questions to the MPAS-WRF User Forum.

Hello . This forum was quite useful in recommending anthro emiss to me.

I did try making netcdf files in a similar format as the EDGAR files with lat, lon , and emissions (first i tried with random data) . And anthro emiss was able to generate wrfchemi files that wrf chem was able to read.
The only drawback tho i haven't been able to make the process faster.  Since it is a 1km * 1lm grid, dt should be small around 4-5 seconds.  And to run a long simulation would take time. Though this should be easier if you have a computer with many cores.

Let me know if this works.

Rupa.
