Hi all,

I had a question regarding implementation of plumerise module in the WRF-Chem.
Firstly, is the plumerise module incorporated in the WRF-Chem code through the module_chem_plumerise_scalar.F and module_plumerise1.F scripts? (These are the only 2 scripts I could find related to plumerise). And do I just need to set plumerise_frq option in namelist.input and the model will automatically invoke plumerise calculations on grid cells containing fire detections obtained through the wrffire_d01* files?

If the answer is yes, then how do I save or calculate the plume injection heights simulated by the plumerise module?

If no, then is there a guide to setup the plumerise module in the WRF-Chem simulation?

Any suggestions on this will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Krishna Kedia

Hello Krishna

yes, these are the two modules for the online plumerise. You will need
to set plumerise_frq but also biomass_burn_opt (see the WRF-Chem User
Guide).
If you use FINN and fire_emiss then you also will need to set
scale_fire_emiss since the FINN emissions include both smoldering and
flaming emissions (see the fire_emiss README for more information).

You can look at the MOZART/GOCART namelist example in our Best
Practices document (https://www2.acom.ucar.edu/wrf-chem)

Hi Gabi,

Thanks for the inputs. Could you please also comment on how to obtain the plume injection heights from the model?
As I understand from the code, ztopmax variable contains the maximum plume injection height for a given column. Is there a way to store this in the wrfout files?

Thanks
Krishna

Hi

you will have to output the variables ebu_{species}. These contain the
vertically distributed fire emissions.
