Dear all,

I am running WRF-Chem v3.9.1 with MOZART-GOCART chemistry, and NEI2014 anthropogenic emissions make by EPA_ANTHRO_EMISS. It worked perfectly for a while but my recently runs started to fail with the following log:

---------------------------------------------

mediation_integrate: med_read_wrf_chem_emissions: Read emissions for time 2014-03-30_00:00:00

It seems that the run could not find the same date time in my wrfchemi input file, but it still shows the same date. I also checked the Times variable in the wrfchemi file, which also agrees. One interesting thing is that, if I start the run with restart = .true. , it runs successfully (I have the restart file but want to re-run the whole simulation with restart = .false.).  Could someone show some hints about this, or did anyone have similar issue before? Here attached my namelist.input, the error log file and the sample of my wrfchemi input (zipped due to file size limitation).

Thanks a lot!

Best regards

Aoxing Zhang

<Problem Solved>

Hi all,

Thanks, Stacy for the great help and suggestions, we solved this issue, which seemed to be a wrfchemi error but then we found that there is something wrong reading the wrfbiochemi file but then somehow the auxhist output messed up. The error was although I did not set any bio_emiss_opt, it still tried to read the wrf_biochemi file because the corresponding auxhist is there. When I updated a workable wrfbiochemi and started bio_emiss_opt, the model works. If anyone else has similar issue, I suggest to set a higher debug level (like 500) to see more information.

Best,
Aoxing

Aoxing,

I had zerod in on the same issue.  For some reason the WRF code is trying to open and read

the file:

wrfbiochemi_d01

not matter what the value of the bio_emiss_opt.  This may well not be an error.   I suspect that

WRF will always try to read the file if it is in your namelist.

It would interesting to do a run with the prior namelist.input file, assigning auxinput6 variables,

and have a wrfbiochemi_d01 file in the run directory.

Hi Stacy,

Thanks for your effort! Here are some follow-up: I noticed the debug=500 log file mentioned the wrfbiochemi output, at the last page where the first error emerges, but I did not applied biogenic emissions in the namelist (I set bio_emiss_opt=0 for quicker testing). So I wonder if the error is related to the auxhist outputs. Then I changed the namelist to attached, by removing auxinput6 (which was the wrfbiochemi input) and auxinput24 (for additional output), and the model works! However in my regular runs I will need them. Hope that helps the diagnostics.

Thanks,

Aoxing

Aoxing,

I do NOT see anything wrong with your simulation files.  This will take more time but I'll try

to get this diagnosed.

Aoxing,

I assume that there is a

wrfchemi_d01_2014-03-30_01:00:00

file.  Is that correct?

Hi Stacy,

Here attached the logfile with debug_level=500. Thanks for helping this out!

Yes. actually I have used this anthro emis output several times, which works fine until recently. Also, when I conduct the restart run (restart = .true.) with everything else not changing, the run works.

Thanks,

Aoxing

Aoxing,

I must say I do NOT see anything wrong with your wrfchemi_d01... file.

Would you mind running once again with the following setting in the namelist.input file?

debug_level = 500,

Hi Stacy,

Please see attached for wrfchemi_d01_2014-03-30_00:00:00. I zipped it for the limitation of the email attachment size. Just let me know if anything else is needed.

Thanks!

Aoxing,

Would it be possible for you to make the file:

wrfchemi_d01_2014-03-30_00:00:00

available?

Aoxing,

Could you return the entire output file, as an attachment, that contains the above segment?

Hello,

I ran into the same error, I have set bio_emis_opt =3, and I have wrfbiochemi_d01 and wrfbiochemi_d02 available in my working directory. I still get the same error while running wrf.exe. I checked for correct dates in  wrfchemi_d0* files. They seem to match. I do not know where am wrong. I have attached rsl.error.0000 and namelist for reference

Have you set the offset year properly in your anthro_emiss.inp file? Make sure it is correct.

Thanks and Regards.
