The Developmental Testbed Center (DTC) recently opened registration for the first Unified Forecast System (UFS) Short Range Weather (SRW) Application, taking place from 20-24 September 2021. The capacity-limited slots for participation in the lecture and hands-on practical sessions filled quickly, but we are happy to announce that registration for those interested in attending the lecture-only portion of the training is now available. In addition, if you’re interested in attending the hands-on practical sessions as well, please check the box on the registration page to be added to a waitlist in case a slot becomes available. If we are able to accommodate your attendance for the hands-on practical session portion of the training, you will be contacted by email at a later date. Please keep in mind that lectures and practice materials will also be made publicly available after the event.
As a reminder, the training will be a live, yet virtual, event. Lecture and hands-on practice sessions will be provided by subject matter experts (SMEs) from the DTC, NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center (EMC), National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL). Attendees will hear presentations on various UFS components, including the regional workflow, NCEP libraries, the FV3 dynamic core and limited area model (LAM) configuration, physics suite options, pre/post-processing, and Python plotting scripts to visualize output. Additional lectures on current and future development of the SRW App are also planned.
Please see the UFS SRW Application Users’ Training event page for more information!
