Hi Peyman,
Thank you for letting us know. That is an issue running the calibration workflow. I will see if somehow we can guide you through this.
I believe you need to simply remove the lock file and then re-run that section. But, let me double check.

Cheers,
Molly

Hi,

I am using Lesson L3: Calibration (https://github.com/NCAR/wrf_hydro_training/blob/8c4949959b4c5dfc9a2b4f27a813381e806cffff/lessons/internal/Lesson-calibration.ipynb) to calibrate the WRF-Hydro model for my case study. I am in the last step running "python calib.py 1", I do not know why I am receiving the following message after running this. I did not find a clue to resolve this issue. BTW: My case is not NWM, I used Gridded.

 LOCK FILE FOUND.
JOB: 15958 Has Failed. Removing LOCK  file.
ERROR: Configuration file: /gpfs/u/home/peyman/WRF-Hydro/Calib_HandsOn/CUAHSI_TEST/setup.config not found.

Thank you,

Thank you Molly for the help. Yes I did that, and it worked. I am receiving other messages while the calibration runs as below: I do not know why this is happening. Would you please help me on this. Thank you so much.

 LOCK FILE NOT FOUND.
Found optional spinup alternatives
NO MODEL SIMULATIONS FOUND
NO CALIB JOBS FOUND
READY TO RUN FIRST CALIB CODE
FIRING OFF FIRST CALIBRATION CODE

Yes, the Calibration workflow that this lesson uses produces messages as it runs so you know what is happening.
If it comes along lock files, just unlock them.

Cheers,
Molly

But I am receiving error message through email saying that "ERROR: 1st Calibration Scripts failed for gage: 8071280 Iteration: 0 Failed. Please remove LOCK file: /gpfs/u/home/peyman/WRF-Hydro/Calib_HandsOn/CUAHSI_TEST/8071280/RUN.CALIB/CALIB.LOCK"

and even though I am removing the CALIB.LOCK file, nothing happens, after a while the lock file is again created, and the same story! and still showing the same messages in my previous comment, now it is more than 24 hours! I believe something is wrong, but there is no any document that help me to resolve this issue. Thank you again for the help.

Hi Peyman,
I apologize as I should have addressed this in your first request. May I ask how you found the Lesson S3 Calibration?
During the October 2018 training, we did demo a method for calibration and discuss things to consider when calibrating. However, we did not officially publicly release the calibration code because at this time we are still fine-tuning it and we can not officially support it.
It is surprising to me that you were able to find it since it is not in our public training github repo or listed on our training webpage.
At this time we can only officially support what we have made available on this page https://ral.ucar.edu/projects/wrf_hydro/training-materials.

That is why you do not find any documents in relation to the lesson that you found.

I appreciate that you are reaching out to the user community and user forum to ask questions.
But know that the WRF-Hydro team cannot support this at this time.
We do hope to supply the community with an official fully supported calibration code in the future.

Best regards,
Molly

Hi Molly,

Thank you for the quick response. Here is the link that I am following to calibrate WRF-Hydro "https://github.com/NCAR/wrf_hydro_training/blob/8c4949959b4c5dfc9a2b4f27a813381e806cffff/lessons/internal/Lesson-calibration.ipynb", this is also similar to the file that you shared with us after the training workshop.

So if the calibration tool of WRF-Hydro is not still available, I am wondering to know how we can use WRF-Hydro for model simulation?! As we know we need to first calibrate this model before using it. What is your suggestion?! Thank you for the help.

Hi Peyman,

Yes, I'm not sure how you found that as it is part of the history but not the current master on that repo.
Here is the repo that we currently support at the master level. https://github.com/NCAR/wrf_hydro_training/tree/master/lessons/training
As you see the lesson that you are referring to is not listed.

Calibration generally comes after model runs.  In general, you set up and run model simulations, evaluate them, and then you run model calibration. Calibration is an advanced step.
The workflow for running the model in the standalone mode with Noah-MP is attached. The training contains a prepared example test case (with all of the needed files already created) and the lessons walk through model setup, simulations, and experiments with different namelist configurations.
For more information on how to set up and run WRF-Hydro see our FAQs, Technical Descriptions & User Guides etc.
Cheers,
Molly

Other WRF-Hydro Users might be able to suggest methods for calibration as well.

Cheers,
Molly
