Inquiry about the difference in routing physical processes between UDMP-on and UDMP-off configurations in WRF-Hydro

Hello everyone,

I am currently working with the WRF-Hydro model, and I am using the Muskingum-Cunge method for channel routing. I have a question regarding the hydrological processes when the User-Defined Mapping (UDMP) option is enabled versus disabled.Aside from the differences in sub-basin delineation and river network structure, I would like to know whether there are any differences in the physical processes of routing between these two configurations.

Hi Zed, 

If we use the UDMP, it will use a different code routine that was initially intended for the National Water Model, however the underlying processes should remain the same. Without UDMP, the routing is done through the drive_CHANNEL subroutine while with the UDMP, it will call drive_CHANNEL_RSL. However, when routing the water, both call the same subroutine SUBMUSKINGCUNGE. I hope this helps!
