--------------------------------------------------------
Dear NMOs and IFMSA members,
We are very excited to share with you this survey that aims to understand the status of research skills and research in medical education across medical education systems worldwide.
IFMSA firmly believes that research and research education should be made accessible and available to medical students worldwide. The lack of research education limits a doctor to patient care without opportunities for innovation, advocacy and advancement of science.. Unfortunately, research is not considered a part of the medical curriculum in many developing countries, despite the existing health inequities and vast potential for development in healthcare as a whole .
This is why by joint efforts of SCOME and SCORE, we decided to collect this data among our members and with the great work of the Small Working Group Members, we prepared a comprehensive survey that tackles multiple aspects of Access to research and research education in medical curricula.
Through this survey we plan
to fully understand the extent to which research is integrated within the medical curriculum across the world through the lens of medical students and
To develop a comprehensive manual/toolkit on research in medical education as a critical tool for meaningful student engagement in medical education.
After collecting your valuable answers, we will analyze the data and use it to create a comprehensive report to be added to our toolkit- “A Medical Student’s Guide to Research in the field of Medical Education”.
The survey should take around 5 minutes to complete. The deadline to provide your responses is the 15th of January 2023, 23:59 GMT.
We would be extremely grateful if you shared this widely with your members. At the end of this journey we wish to advocate for meaningful student engagement with medical curricula. So, on behalf of all SWG members, we urge all medical education and research enthusiasts out there to fill out this survey and try to disseminate the survey and message to all your peers experiencing the current curricula. As medical students of today and future practitioners, your voices matter. One of our goals of medical education advocacy is to be the voice of change and reason for medical students and increase our engagement with medical curricula. By answering this short survey we will be able to effectively understand the global picture of research in medical education and consecutively use it as an advocacy tool for future engagements.
In case of any questions, please reach out to us!
Best regards,
On behalf of the SWG members (Hamza, Abdelrahman, Maha, Violetta, Katharina and Marouane) and Yaaser Hamza (SWG co-coordinator and the Program Coordinator for Medical Education Systems 2021/22)
