Dear Trusted CI Community,

Today, we have learned that NSF laid off 168 staff members. Trusted CI is very sorry to report that the layoff includes a longtime friend of the research cybersecurity community, Mike Corn, who as many of you know, has served as the NSF Cybersecurity Advisor for Research Infrastructure for a little over a year now. Mike Corn has been central to the cybersecurity aspects of the recently-announced draft RIG, and Trusted CI does not yet know the impacts on the finalization of that document given today’s events.

At the same time, Trusted CI remains here and committed to continuing its support of the NSF-funded research cyberinfrastructure operators who perform and support amazing scientific research. Indeed, cybersecurity remains as important to ensuring scientific research as ever, and Trusted CI celebrates all of you in the community who work tirelessly to ensure that research cyberinfrastructure continues to operate securely and reliably, and scientific discovery is able to continue. We also salute all of the NSF Program Officers and other unsung heroes who make this vital scientific work possible.

Trusted CI will continue to communicate with all of you to the best of our abilities about developments that impact our community. Please also feel free to contact Trusted CI at any time if you have anything that you would like to discuss with us further.

Sincerely,
Sean Peisert
Director and PI, Trusted CI

Dear Trusted CI Community,

We have received important confirmation from NSF that comments for the RIG draft are still actively being solicited and continue to have a hard deadline of March 10, 2025. The community’s feedback is welcomed and highly encouraged:
