Hey folks! In case they have reached out to you, I'm starting to encourage folks like this to start with available resources before reaching out for interview time. I hope this is helpful in responding to other inquiries!

Hi Morgan -

Thanks for reaching out! I am actually also steering committee chair of the National Tool Library Alliance, the gathering point for established tool libraries in the U.S. We're starting to host an orientation meetup for folks like yourself who are interested in starting new libraries, with the kickoff session on January 28th at 4 pm (Zoom).

I'd recommend starting with the Libraries of Things Toolkit that was just published in order to get the basics, and then reaching out with specific questions, or joining the orientation session. While we're all thrilled to see new libraries starting, we're also stretched pretty thin and get a lot of similar requests.

If you'd like, I can add you to the international Tool Library Google Group so you can stay apprised of invitations like the one to our orientation, and can search over a decade's worth of valuable content in the archives.

Take care,
Leanna

Good afternoon,

My name is Morgan Ingraham, and I work as a Program Associate for the Institute for Sustainability Engagement at Syracuse University. I am reaching out as part of a project funded by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYS P2I) to establish the Northeastern Tool Library (NETL) in Keeseville, NY.

As part of this initiative, we are conducting interviews with leaders of tool libraries to learn from your expertise and gather insights on best practices for starting and running a successful tool library. The information we collect will not only inform the development of the NETL but also be compiled into a guidance document to assist other communities across New York State and beyond in creating their own tool libraries. We would love to reference your expertise and cite your tool library in any distributed educational materials.

We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you and learn from your experiences. The interview would take approximately 30–60 minutes and can be conducted via Zoom or by phone at a time that is most convenient for you.

If you are willing to participate, please let us know. We are looking to book in the new year (early-mid January) and would be happy to accommodate your schedule.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to contribute your valuable insights to this exciting project. I am happy to answer any questions or provide more information about our initiative.

Best,
Morgan

I got the exact same email... and a couple more...

Is there registration for the 1/28 event? If so, we should ask Kami to include that in her debrief for all attendees.
