Please join me this Friday at 11am CST to meet with Lidia Ponce de la Vega,
who will be speaking with us about the epistemic (de)colonization of
Latin American nature and biodiversity in digital archives.
Her presentation will focus on the case study of the Biodiversity
Heritage Library (BHL) to discuss the possibilities for decolonizing
online archives by exploring topics of human and nonhuman
representation, diversity and inclusion, and equitable archival
practices. She will explore the specific case of Latin American
languages and audiences, as well as the BHL México project, and address
the decolonization of metadata practices with a particular emphasis on
issues of representation that involve human and nonhuman subjects alike.
Lidia
Ponce de la Vega is a Doctoral Candidate in Hispanic Studies at McGill
University and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts (Gabino Barreda Medal)
in Hispanic Language and Literature from the National Autonomous

at McGill. Her research is a critical analysis of the Biodiversity Heritage Library and focuses on the epistemic (de)colonization of Latin American nature and biodiversity in digital archives.
Hope to see you soon!
