As I read what is planned, it seems to have
the most impact on the NB (north bound) lanes, and a shorter
impact on SB. There are several postings but I thought this one
was better written. You might also check Houston Transtar's site.
There is other on-going construction on the Gulf Freeway, but the
following is specific to Saturday. And yes, there is a missing
word in the first sentence of the last paragraph, but you have to
assume that it (NB 646 exit) is "closed".
TxDOT will be performing a total closure of I-45 this Saturday
morning to set the remaining 2 overhead large sign structures on
the project both near the SH 96 overpass. This work will
include a total NBML closure on Saturday from 6AM to noon and a
short term total closure SBML only when setting the structures.
We will also be switching NBML traffic to the permanent
configuration from north of FM 517 to north of SH 96 this weekend.
This work will be performed beginning Friday at 9PM through Monday
at 5AM including an alternating NBML 2 lane closure from FM 517 to
north of SH 96 and closure of the following ramps:
NB FM 518 exit
NB FM 646 entrance
NB SH 96 exit
NB FM 517 entrance
The NB FM 646 exit ramp will remain all weekend. This will serve
as the exit during the total closure and the detour for the SH 96
and FM 518 exits all weekend during the traffic switch. The SH 96
entrance ramp will also remain open all weekend for traffic to
re-enter the NBML. SBML traffic will exit to SH 96 during the
short-term total closure and be able to re-enter via the SH 96
entrance ramp. We will also have off-duty officers assisting with
keeping traffic flowing at the FM 517, FM 646, and SH 96
intersections.
Travelers should avoid this area if possible and expect delays in
this area as there is a high likelihood of increased traffic and
congestion during this project.
