Hi TensorFlow Lite Users,

We just launched a Google Play Services API for TensorFlow Lite in public beta. This API provides access to an instance of the TensorFlow Lite runtime library that is distributed via Google Play Services. It is actively being used by several internal Google teams and is serving a significant volume of Android users. Earlier versions of this API have been in testing with external developers in a closed Early Access Program last year.

Using this API, rather than standalone TensorFlow Lite, will help you:

  • Reduce your APK sizes, up to 2MBs

  • Benefit from automatic updates to TensorFlow Lite, which has seen many improvements in speed over the last year. By adopting this API, you will be updating to the latest version and may see increased performance. You will also get the benefit of any future improvements with no action needed on your part.

If you’re interested, check out our integration guide and sample app

Moreover, the Android ML Platform team is also considering doing case studies with developers on their experience with this new API, which may be a great opportunity to raise awareness for your app within the Android community. If this is something that interests you, please send an email to android-ml-pla...@google.com.

Thanks,

Ali on behalf of TensorFlow Lite and Android ML Platform teams
