I must really want to get into this AI subject because for 1 week that I am trying to install tensorflow with cuda I just can't.

I have intel HD graphics and a GTX 860M.
I have tried with ubuntu 16.04 , 14... kali linux. I have followed all the guides I could find and I bricked my OS many times. I have tried all the driver nvidia driver versions I could get my hands on.

Finally I got cuda to work with with my ubunto 14.04 but still I can't install this tensorflow.... Every error that I solve it is just one more step in a ladder of infinity errors to come....

For 1 full week that I have been trying I now quit. Because there isn't a single updated guide to this day that I can follow and runs without errors...
If someone can help I will be listening very careful otherwise I will just quit this ...

I'm sorry to hear that.

Assuming you install the appropriate version of cuda, tensorflow should install cleanly on both 14.04 and 16.04.

Have you filed issues with a description of your problems?

Everytime that I tried it was with a clean ubuntu/kali install and updated.

It starts with the driver bricking my boot, my login gui, after that is solved, installing Cuda also bricks it again and on more time having to patch stuff in order to get gui going again. It is just a pain in the a**.
Probably most of the guides are for older versions of the applications used.

This post is mainly to share how sad I feel about it because I can't keep it to myself anymore xD I will keep trying 1 or 2 more days.
If it was easier this would get a lot more people working with this technology.

Whoops. I meant to say, try getting tensorflow installed with the CPU only on 16.04 <--- CPU only is a good place to start as it takes all the graphics crap out of the equation. When do you install the GPU stuff on 16.04 I had to install cuda 7 and TF 7 as 8 doesn't work for me. Make sure CUDNN matches 7 also. And run the cuda 7 install with --override at the end to get it to actually install as cuda 7 is for Ubuntu 14.

Also, don't install the driver Cuda comes with. Get the latest nvidia driver. learn how to modify your xorg.conf file if you don't already know.

I did that, I chose no to installing the driver that comes with Cuda. But still it happened.

I am using bumblebee and prime for the optirun.

And the funny thing is that optirun glxgears runs at 1200fps and without it runs at like 12000

I use Docker + Nvidia Docker. No mayor issues.

I had similar issues with Ubuntu 16.04  / Centos 7 many times login would fail due graphics card issues.  Never install cuda gpu using a standard linux package install, always follow the nvidia_cuda/tensorflow website instructions.

Installing nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-370.28.run fixed all my problems (your 860M is supported here too).  All the other nvidia drivers I tried had problems.

I eventually settled on 15.04 Ubuntu ( for other reasons unrelated to Cuda) and installed Cuda 7.5  Without any issue.   You have to follow the instructions to the letter otherwise you will have problems.

I plan to upgrade to 8.0 over the holidays , I will try to document the steps to share on the mailgroup
