As a follow-up to my earlier message about earning PD hours (see the previous post: Opportunity to earn 3 free online PD hours from TCNJ ), we are inviting you to join us this Friday afternoon (June 5, 1pm - 2:15pm) to watch a few at home physics demos by this year's group of STEP-UP students.  In the past, our STEP-UP program (see description below) has been a three-week in-person program from May-June, but this year, we're breaking it up with a virtual first week (this week) and other components later. We have seven students (in three groups) who have been participating in this week of remote STEP-UP pedagogy and demo planning.  If we are able, they will be taking demos into real classrooms in January.

We'd love for them to have an audience on Friday, and we know that they would appreciate your constructive feedback and words of wisdom.  You can also earn PD credit from TCNJ as detailed in my earlier post.

Here is a copy of the direct zoom link for Friday, June 5th, 1:00 - 2:15 pm:

If you can just send me a quick reply to let us know if you can make it, that'd be a big help!

All the best,

Melissa Chessler

Description of our usual STEP-UP program:
"STEP-UP" refers to TCNJ's Summer Teaching Exploration Program for Undergraduate Physics.  This is a 3-week program designed to give students an opportunity to experience how exciting and rewarding a career in physics education can be.
Participants can expect to:
- Receive training and experience in physics teaching techniques from expert instructors
- Visit real high school physics classrooms to perform demos and engage students in tutoring and extra help activities
- Learn about physics teaching career opportunities and network with professionals
- Discuss the latest scientific research papers exploring how students learn physics

Hi Melissa,
I have my year end meeting with my supervisor tomorrow afternoon but I may be able to make it for the first portion of this if it's OK that I duck out a little early - let me know!

Stay well,
MC

Hi Megan,

Yes, please join us for whatever portion of the session you can.  We'll be posting the demos to the Google group, so you can see the rest there later and also offer feedback to the students.

See you tomorrow,
Melissa

Just a quick note to let you know that we will be posting the videos from the STEP-UP program demos once we receive photo releases from those who appear in the videos.  Sorry it has taken me a bit of time to determine how to post videos through the Google Group.

I hope your summer is off to a great start!
Melissa
