Happy Summer!  In lieu of a meeting, I thought I'd send you this information from Vince Adams about all the progress Bailey Payne, the district's Sustainability Coordinator has made.  It's impressive!

I wanted to make sure everyone knows that Ashley, our beloved co-leader, has decided to step down from her position.  Fear not, I will push forward as the sole leader of our fabulous team, and I'm grateful that Ashley has agreed to continue on as a Representative of our team.  Thanks Ashley for all your hard work and classy leadership.

I'll be in touch later in the summer to arrange our first meeting in quite awhile to discuss how we can help our School Stewards in the fall.  Until then, have a fabulous summer!

Rachel

Hi there,

I'm reaching out to once again express my appreciation for the consistent engagement of the EdAT with Corvallis schools. Last night the school board heard the first annual report from the CSD sustainability coordinator, Bailey Paine. There is much to applaud and the EdAT was no small part of that effort! The first year of a project is always challenging, but no one anticipated a pandemic. Despite this adversity, Bailey has been successful in establishing much needed human infrastructure for advancing sustainability initiatives in the coming years. Here are some things I would like to highlight from the district's sustainability work this year, all of which is in the report:

  • Marked increase in staff and student leadership on sustainability
  • Over ¾ of schools completed waste audits, an unpleasant task, but one that is important because you can’t change what you don’t measure.
  • Creating a dashboard of tracking indicators of progress.
  • Reductions in energy consumption
  • The robust incorporation of sustainability in design work for our new schools
  • Construction of a 117kW solar array that is saving the district almost $20k/yr
  • Building partnerships within the district and in the community

In just one year, and a year marked by tremendous organizational and community disruption, the district and it’s sustainability coordinator have made great strides, and that is thanks to the continued support of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition. On behalf of the schools, students, and families of Corvallis, thank you very much! We look forward to our ongoing partnership in making a sustainable world a reality.

Warm regards,

Vincent Adams, MPP he - him - his *
