Semester 1 Science Review - Chemistry
Instructions for students:
For each unit, watch the video(s) and then write a summary that includes all of the key terms for that unit. You will be given a point for each correct piece of information in your summaries. Each summary must be written in well-formed complete sentences. Each unit summary will be worth 10 points with the possibility of earning extra credit if they are very well written, or if they include more than 10 correct pieces of information.

Unit 1 - Density and Buoyancy
(If there is extra time, then show - http://youtu.be/fE2KQzLUVA4 and http://youtu.be/MzsORE0ae10 )
U1 Key terms/questions: density, mass, volume, formula, buoyancy, neutral buoyancy, float, sink, How do you know if an object will float or sink? BONUS: How do you explain the buoyancy of an object with how much water it displaces?

Unit 2 - Structure of an Atom, Periodic Table
U2 Key Terms: element, atom, proton, neutron, nucleus, electron, isotope, periods, groups, valence electrons, Group 1 - Alkali Metals, Group 17 - Halogens, Group 18 - Noble/Inert Gases, BONUS: Group 2 - Alkaline Earth Metals

Unit 3 - Chemical Reactions
U3 Key Terms: element, compound, molecules, atoms, reactants, products, chemical bonds, changes in properties, changes in energy, endothermic, exothermic, BONUS: synthesis, decomposition, replacement reaction, combustion

Unit 4 - States of Matter
U4 Key Terms: matter, solid, liquid, gas, particles/molecules, melting, freezing, vaporization (boiling, evaporation), sublimation, physical changes

Unit 5 - Acids, Bases, and Neutral Solutions
U5 Key Terms: pH, litmus test, acid, base, neutral solution, acid properties - sour, corrosive, hydrogen ions H+; bases properties - bitter, slippery, hydroxide ions OH-
