Dear Colleagues
At the upcoming congress of the Swiss Sociological Association, taking place in Fribourg from September 2–4, 2026, the research committee Interpretive Sociologies will organize two workshops: “A productive rivalry? Sociological analysis facing societal interpretations on the move” and “Communities in Movement: Interpretative Perspectives on Cohesion, Belonging and Social Relations”.
Particularly the first one could interest STS-scholars who are researching social sciences and/or have a reflexive interest. The workshop revolves around the issue that the authority of the social sciences is continually challenged by other societal actors. Instead of a monopoly on the observation and the definition of social relations, there are other disciplines, expert systems, and “folk theories” pursuing the same aim. The workshop focuses on the current state(s) of this rivalry.
The workshop will be held in German, English, and French. Participation is only possible in person and on site. Proposals may be submitted until 31 March to guy.sc...@unilu.ch and florian...@unisg.ch. For more detailed information, please refer to the attached Calls for Papers.
Best regards,
Guy Schwegler and Florian Elliker
