I'd like to kick off with a discussion about membership. I am going to make a proposal and I would like to have your feedback please.

I am basing this on the current Stationers Company (London) - a guild that I suspect greatly influenced the founding of this one being a period organization. The levels of membership are Freemen, Liverymen, Wardens and Master. Our Charter specified a Master/Mistress and 5 Wardens. They also have an Almoner, who is responsible for charitable giving.

I propose that once we are more stable:
  • All members are Freemen
  • Liverymen are those members who have achieved working knowledge (some designation of rankings) of 3 of our areas: papermaking, parchment making, book binding, printing, lymning, block cutting, engraving, text-writing, book selling
  • Wardens are elected from the Liverymen by majority of respondents to an online polling when a place is available.
  • Almoner(s) are selected by the Wardens and have oversight of our fundraising and largesse work.
    • Fundraising enough to acquire tokens for successful paneling with the remainder going to the Kingdom
    • Largesse for the Crown and House Runnymede to dispense as They see fit
    • Gifts for the Crown
  • The Master/Mistress is elected by the Wardens or appointed by the Crown and is Peer of the Society.
We will need to firm this up a bit when we have matured. For now I am going to reach out to the original wardens that I can make contact with and see if they wish to retain their role.

Please - let me know your thoughts, what you've seen work, what you've seen become a challenge.

Thank you all!

Good Afternoon,

Not having been a part of any other structures like this before within the SCA, I was wondering if this also paralleled Athens Thimble or similar groups?

Best Regards,
Shoshana Gryffyth

I like this kind of structure as it allows a membership without having to prove oneself while also giving members something to strive for if they care to.

And yes, Shoshana, as a member of Athena's Thimble, I can confirm this is similar to their structure, where beads of specific colors are given as proof the person passed certain skills to certain levels.

Jenevra - I like the proposal. Simple and straightforward. I suspect we might want to clarify that offices could be held only by people living in-Kingdom (said the person not currently living in-Kingdom). Best wishes, Iheronimus

Ok gang - these TOPICs in Google Groups are NOT working the way I thought they would. SO, I'm going to delete them.

You can create a new Topic for what you wish to discuss using the button at the top of the web ui. OR, just create a descriptive subject line that makes your intent clear if you prefer to engage via email. Google is good at search but better when we help it. :)

I've also added the keywords to the Facebook group, and you have the option of adding them to help make things more findable later on in the group search, which is kind to newcomers and for that moment of "where did I see that?"

Cheers all, Happy Friday!
