I added an overview page for building BOINC software:

This is currently linked from the Developers page:

Prior to this, a new developer going to the BOINC website
or github wiki had no way of finding how to build anything.

-------------------

Moving the docs from Trac to github was good,
but there are pervasive problems.

1) organization/indexing: imagine that you know little about BOINC,
and you've been charged with, let's say, building a BOINC app for Windows.
Or building a BOINC client for a Linux variant.
You'd be lost and confused pretty quick.

2) lots of the docs are way out of date.
E.g. the Win docs refer to Visual Studio 2005, 2013 etc.
and describe manually building dependent libraries

David,

On this page:  https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/wiki/CompileClient it says that boinccmd is for Unix/Linus only.  That is not true, I am able to run it on Windows as well.  I'm not sure about Mac, but this should be fixed.

Additionally, the section on compiling with VisualStudio 2013 is out of date.  The most current version of VisualStudio (VS 2022 right now) is required.

Thanks for pointing this out.
I fixed the errors you point out,
and removed outdated stuff related to dependent libraries.

Vitalii, I think there's still some outdated info here:
Can you take a look?

Thanks - D

Thanks David.

I've updated the missing parts of the build process with Visual Studio 2022.

Best regards,
