Android Activity during Benchmaks

I have noticed that my Android BOINC App runs all of it's project communication handshakes after that BOINC app is restarted / or loaded after boot.  It appears to do all of this while Benchmarks are still being run.  Should these be delayed until after Benchmarks are completed to get a more valid Benchmark ?
