BOINC client 8.2.1 ready for testing

Great news! A new version of the BOINC client is ready to test.
The release notes are here:

The major new feature is support for Docker apps.
Docker is a 'container' technology: sort of like virtual machines,
but more efficient and easy to use.
We think that Docker is the future of BOINC.
The 8.2.1 client detects Docker (or its open-source variant, Podman)
and reports it to projects.
Currently two projects have Docker apps: LHC@home and BOINC Central.
Eventually we plan to offer Podman in the BOINC installer,
but for now you have to install it yourself.
This is easy to do; instructions are here:

Hi David and all Team Members,
Thanks for fixing the issue with directory permissions on every MacOS update, but all Apple Silicon Mac owners are still experiencing this issue:
Since 8.0.0, and the change to add Apple GPU as official GPU type, many projects are no more able to handled our GPUs.
I know that the work to do is on the project managers hands, but is a workaround possible?

Hello everyone,
As LHC@home have no tasks to sent for my Apple silicon Mac (under macOS 15.4.1), I will soon revert back to BM 7.24.4.
Some projects are looking for Apple silicon GPU with the old name.
I’m not sure Docker is detected by BM, despite I have installed podman-installer-macos-arm64.pkg.
I also ran the commands 'podman machine init' and 'podman machine start’ without any errors.

When I try to submit test results for Docker tests, I get a reply:

Hello David,
None of my test report submissions appear at: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/alpha/test_details.php?version=8.2.1&server=0
I submitted several test reports. I was not sure how often to submit them.
Is that normal or just Rookie tester luck :-). I did submit an email to the group about the dockser test on Apr 24, 2025, 3:04:48 PM, so that is not lost.

I performed a clean install of Boinc client on my Mac Apple silicon (under MacOS 15.4.1)
Podman is no longer detected by client, even I reinstalled podman-installer-macos-arm64.pkg (version 5.4.2)
I also tried with Podman version 5.5.0-rc1 ; same issue.

The problem may have been caused when I changed my BOINC username.

There's an issue with Podman on MacOS:
the BOINC client (and apps) run under user accounts 'boinc_master' and
'boinc_project'.
It turns out that (on MacOS) Podman doesn't work from user accounts
other than the one from which it was installed.
So the BOINC client doesn't detect Podman.
We're trying to figure out a workaround.

There's an issue with Podman on MacOS:
the BOINC client (and apps) run under user accounts 'boinc_master' and
'boinc_project'.
It turns out that (on MacOS) Podman doesn't work from user accounts
other than the one from which it was installed.
So the BOINC client doesn't detect Podman.
We're trying to figure out a workaround.

Having this issue with Boinc 8.2.1.
With all suspended and in boinc showing that everything is supposed, my GPUs are working ate 100% almost.

Hello all,
A clarification... My minor bug is that CPU time is always 0.00 in the web-based result. It is counting the CPU time while processing the work unit in the BOINC manager.
This seems to only apply to Docker work units.
My previous minor bug list (not sure I can edit it):
The CPU time for all my BOINC Central tasks is listed as 0.00. Look at my computer and its BOINC Central work units at: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/central/results.php?hostid=32598 These are all Docker tasks. The 1.09 Docker works fine. But not the earlier 1.08 Docker tasks.

This looks like a problem with the NumberField applications.
Does it happen with the BOINC 8.0.2 client?
