Two Google Meet Suggestions, thanks to Steve Koelker today

Nickname your Meets (aw, that’s so cute)

I’ve been reminding folks that Hangout Meets are more secure if you create them with a nickname rather than using the 10 character code that auto-generates.

If you do so and are the last one to leave a Meet, no one can get back into it. Here’s a video of the process:

Meet Freezing (not hamburger, though)

Meets are resource hogs on your computer. What to do?

  1. Shut your computer down every few days and restart. Good electro-hygiene.

  2. When you are heading into a Meet (or recording a video with Loom or anything else using your camera a bunch) it’s best to close other programs and Internet windows and tabs if at all possible.

  3. Mostly we use Meets in Chrome browser which has a setting worth adjusting (maybe). It’s the famous Hardware Acceleration setting (I believe Doc had to tweak it on the flux capacitor. Could be wrong.) Here’s how you can turn it off and maybe get better mileage:

In Chrome....

1.  Top right 3 dots

2.  Settings

3.  Advanced (down bottom)

4.  System

5.  Deactivate the "hardware acceleration" toggle in the middle.

6.  Close and restart ,Chrome.
