Hi

I am configuring our local Galaxy instance to send data to the European mirror of UCSC. However, in contrast to the US site, the access to our data from the European mirror seems not to work and I get a message of the following type

TCP non-blocking connect() to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx timed-out in select() after 10000 milliseconds - Cancelling! Couldn't open http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:pppp/root/display_as?id=0001&display_app=ucsc&authz_method=display_at

in a yellow error frame at the top of the tracks.

To me this looks a bit like a firewall configuration problem. Currently, we have only opened 129.70.40.120 allowed access to our site -- that's the IP that I obtained from `resolveip genome-euro.ucsc.edu`. But are there any other European UCSC servers that we have to allow access to our Galaxy host?

Thanks for you support!
Philip

Hello, Philip.

There is only one European server and your IP address is correct, so there
is nothing more that needs to be done from that standpoint. In addition to
allowing that IP address through your firewall, though, you must also allow
the appropriate port through your firewall. In the error message you are
receiving, whatever port number is indicated by "pppp" in
"http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:pppp", you must also make sure that port is allowed
through your firewall. If this does not solve the problem, you might also
check your firewall logs to see if anything else is going on there.

Please contact us again at gen...@soe.ucsc.edu if you have any further
questions. Questions sent to that address will be archived in a
publicly-accessible forum for the benefit of other users. If your question
includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.
