Hi,
We regularly use the genome browser in our lab for a variety of validation and discovery tasks (thank you!). I think that the display convention for the GTEx gene expression data is particularly useful and was wondering if there is a custom track to replicate this display with our own data.  Do you happen to have any guides/examples for how this track was produced? Thank you.
Cheers,

Hello,

Thank you for using the UCSC Genome Browser and sending your inquiry. I apologize for the delay in my response.

The GTEx Gene track has the data in bigBarChart format, and you can create a similar track for your custom track data. The file format and examples for how to create these custom tracks can be found on the barChart file format help page:

https://genome.ucsc.edu/goldenPath/help/barChart.html

We recommend creating a bigBarChart inside a track hub to display your data. The text-based format of barChart is mostly useful for experimenting with the track type.

If you still have questions or suggestions on how to improve the page, let us know, and we can help create your custom tracks. You may also search the mailing list archives to find previously answered questions about creating the barChart custom tracks:

I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions, please reply to gen...@soe.ucsc.edu.

If your question includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.
