TWIMC,

I have checked the website, the documentation, the Wiki, and "The Internet".
I thought there use to be a track in the UCSC Genome Browser in which one could show mutations from C.O.S.M.I.C.
I have used "COSMIC", "C.O.S.M.I.C.", "Catalogue of Somatic Mutations" and just "Catalog" as search terms, without success.
Could not find mention on "The Internet" of an I.P. disagreement between the UCSC group and the Sanger Institute.
Am I /was I hallucinating? Do I have cortical blindness?

Thank you,

Loren Joseph

Hi Loren,

You can go to the UCSC Genome Browser assembly gateway page at http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgGateway?db=hg19 to see the tracks for the GRCh37/hg19 assembly. If you look in the track category "Phenotype and Literature" you will see the track labeled "COSMIC."

If it's been a while since you've looked at the UCSC Genome Browser, you may be accustomed to seeing hg19 as the default human browser - this changed last year to hg38 as the default assembly, and sometimes users can be confused when looking at hg38 for a hg19 specific track.

You can see the COSMIC track description page here: http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTrackUi?db=hg19&g=cosmic

Another possibility is that you had found a COSMIC track in an unofficial mirror of the UCSC Genome Browser - sometimes mirrors have the same overall user interface and design and can be mistaken for our official site at genome.ucsc.eduHere is an example that I found, note the the site is not "genome.ucsc.edu" because it is an unofficial mirror: http://ucscbrowser.genap.ca/cgi-bin/hgTrackUi?db=hg19&g=cosmic

Please respond to this list if you have further questions!

Thank you again for your inquiry and for using the UCSC Genome Browser.
