Hello,
We are getting some data from UCSC RefSeq as well as RefSeq Curated/RefSeq All. On the RefSeq page I see that the current release is 202.

How do I figure out which release is being used in the UCSC tracks? I selected UCSC RefSeq (refGene) and looked at the table schema page but I don’t see a release version number there.

Thank you,
Shalini

Hello Shalini,
Thank you for your question about UCSC RefSeq versioning.
The data used to create the UCSC RefSeq (RefGene) track comes from RefSeq v201. The UCSC RefSeq track is only updated when a new GenBank version is announced (most recently 238), so the newest RefSeq at that time was RefSeq v201. I recognize that this process is not the most intuitive or transparent, so I will see what I can do to improve the documentation of these versions and update the track to RefSeq v202.
RefSeq continuously updates its transcripts between versions. For maximum specificity, the transcript version numbers are stable and can be accessed via the hgFixed.gbCdnaInfo table.
I hope this was helpful. If you have any more questions, please reply-all to gen...@soe.ucsc.edu. All messages sent to that address are publicly archived. If your question includes sensitive data, please reply-all to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.
All the best,
