All:

I have a track hub hosting de novo assemblies of several drosophila strains as SNAKE tracks.  The track hub also displays ATACseq data associated with 8 of those strains as a multiwig -- the ATACseq data is color coded by strain as you can see in the attached figure.

(from trackDb.txt)
track A4_WD
bigDataUrl ATACseq2022/A4_W_WD.bw
shortLabel A4
longLabel Strain A4
parent WingDisk_ATACseq
type bigWig
graphTypeDefault points
smoothingWindow 16
color 27,158,119

Is there anyway to color the light blue SNAKE backgrounds by sample name.  That is make A4 the same "27,158,119" color?  My guess is that this is difficult.  Barring that what about the "shortLabel" -- anyway to color it?

I guess you see what I am trying to accomplish.  I wish the user to be able to immediate see SNPs/INDELs/or Structure Variants unique to a strain that shows an extreme ATACseq profile via a consistent color scheme.

Hi, Tony.

Thank you for your question about coloring snake tracks in the UCSC Genome Browser.

At the moment, there isn't a way to change the coloring of a snake track. However, it seems like it would be a useful feature that we hope to implement sometime in the future, though I can't give an exact estimate of when at this time. I've made a note to send you an email when this feature is available.

As always, thanks.  I imagined this, but sometimes there are clever hacks or buried features.  I thought there might be a way to color the shortlabel I wasn’t seeing.

I guess the audience is small. And Snake tracks are already complex (with different colors being used).  Being able to change the shortlabels thought could be a more general solution (even if somewhat limited).

T.
