Hello,

This is for people who has forwarded their soe.ucsc.edu mails to Gmail, and wish to use Gmail to send mails that look like from their soe.ucsc.edu address.

Each email has a "From" header (two if you are a computer geek like me, but that's not related to our discussion here) that indicates where it comes from. If you send a mail from Gmail, that "From" field carries your Gmail address. You can customize that field within Gmail settings so the mail sent from Gmail can look like being sent from your other email accounts. After it's set up, you can choose your "From" address by using a dropbox whenever you send a mail from Gmail.

Google's official instruction can be found here:

Click the "I'm a Gmail or Google Apps user sending from an external address." link to expand the detail instructions. I found it's clear and easy to follow. But please reply to this mail if you had any difficulties (or try contacting Google for support if you have tons of time to waste :-).

If you are using some email client software to access Gmail other than its web interface, you should follow your client software's instruction on how to customize the "From" field. Reply if you need help on this.

Good luck!
