Is it possible to get any metrics for how many times a track data hub that we maintain on our servers is accessed through the UCSC Genome Browser?  Specifically, we are trying to get utilization stats for the Zebrafish Genomics hub at http://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgHubConnect.

Thanks!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question about your public track in the UCSC Genome Browser.

Yes, we can generate some track usage metrics for your hub upon request. I have attached a file contained these metrics for your "ZebrafishGenomics" hub covering January 2017 through May 2017. The file is a 6 column file, with the columns descriptions being:
  1. Hub shortLabel
  2. Assembly
  3. Year
  4. Month
  5. Track name
  6. Number of unique "hgsids" that used that track more than once during the specified month.
    • What is an "hgsid"? When a user navigates to the Genome Browser, they are assigned an "hgsid" for their browsing session. This "hgsid" is associated with a "cart" that contains information on what tracks are enabled, what assembly is being used, what position is displayed and a number of other things. This hgsid is persistent until they clear their cookies or manually reset their "cart" via links on our site.
    • "Used" here means that the user has connected your hub, has the track set to a non-hide visibility (dense, pack, etc.), navigated to the Genome Browser (the hgTracks CGI specifically), and changed the page in some way (e.g. changing position, changing a track to a non-hide visibility, etc.) more than once.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these stats.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions, please reply to gen...@soe.ucsc.edu. All messages sent to that address are archived on a publicly-accessible Google Groups forum. If your question includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.
