Thank you for using the UCSC Genome Browser and your inquiry.
It would be helpful to know which of our tools generated this error, but if you are using the Table Browser, you may have downloaded a gzip compressed file instead of the normal plain text file. This compression is useful when downloading large amounts of data. Here is a helpful article on how to uncompress these files:
