Hello,

I'm wondering what the etiquette is regarding custom tracks uploaded to https://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgCustom. Is there a maximum upload file size that I should adhere to?

Thanks,
Francis Nguyen

Dear Francis,

Thank you for your question about the UCSC Genome Browser. The limiting factor is the transfer rate bandwidth between you and UCSC. Larger sized files submitted as data to be loaded on the browser can have a variety of difficulties, such as time-outs during transfer and so forth. We suggest using big* file format mentioned here to overcome the limitation of sending very large data sets to UCSC.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any further questions, please reply to gen...@soe.ucsc.edu. All messages sent to that address are archived on a publicly-accessible Google Groups forum. If your question includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.
