Hello,

I had been using UDR+rsync to download database dumps for my UCSC Genome Browser mirror with UDR's default parameters, like

udr rsync -avP hgdownload.soe.ucsc.edu::goldenPath/hg19/database/hapmap* .

However, the download via UDR does not work now, stopping at the stage of trying to connect to the server. I suppose it was caused by unindented overloading of the UCSC server with my requests. My IP was 195.70.204.9.

Please let me know what connection parameters I should use to avoid overloading your server.

Best regards,
Gaik Tamazian

Dear Gaik,

Thank you for using the UCSC Genome Browser and informing us about this UDR issue for the hgdownload machine.

It should now be fixed, please let us know if it is still occurring. You may also be interested to learn there is a second alternative site, our backup machine in San Diego: hgdownload-sd.soe.ucsc.edu  For example, if you were to have this issue again (please report it), you could likely get around the problem by directing your query to that machine until we get a fix back up:

udr rsync -avP hgdownload-sd.soe.ucsc.edu::goldenPath/hg19/database/hapmap* .

Thank you again for your using and help improve the UCSC Genome Browser. If you have any further questions and reply to genome...@soe.ucsc.edu messages will be archived on a publicly-accessible forum. If your question includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.

All the best,

Dear Brian,

Thank you for your rapid reply. Now UDR works fine with both the main and alternative servers.

Best regards,
