Hello Browserians,

I noticed this less than helpful behavior in the browser:
ENST00000623083.4 is a WASH pseudogene on chr1. When I search for it using the text box, I get a browser view that includes the Gencode V39 track, with the text '1 items filtered out' in the track heading. This is the only indication that the gene is there.

I happen to know that I can click on the Gencode track settings and select pseudogenes to see it, but you have to know what you're looking for.

Feature request: Show a searched-for gene automatically even if its gene class is normally hidden in that track.

Thanks!

Dear Jeltje,

Thank you for using the UCSC Genome Browser and reporting this search issue.

We have created a work ticket to work on a way to detect if a searched item is filtered out, and then to display it.  We want to thank you for providing this specific example:

With a default cart the WASH9P gene does not display: https://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTracks?db=hg38&position=ENST00000623083.4

Versus the state that you share you are aware about where turning off the filter of pseudogenes will allow the display of the item: https://genome.ucsc.edu/cgi-bin/hgTracks?db=hg38&position=ENST00000623083.4&knownGene.show.pseudo=1

Thank you again for using and helping us improve  the UCSC Genome Browser. If you have any further public questions, please send new questions to gen...@soe.ucsc.edu. All messages sent to that address are archived on a publicly accessible forum to help others find answers to similar questions. If your question includes sensitive data, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu, which is a private internal list to our support team.

All the best,
