Hello,

I have a question regarding the usage of the wigToBigWig package on a cluster. I hope I am contacting the right person, please let me know if it is not!

I would like to use the wigToBigWig package on the university cluster. I installed it with conda:
conda install -c bioconda ucsc-wigtobigwig
This gives rise to the following error if I run the command 'wigToBigWig':
wigToBigWig: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.1.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Everything I find on the internet uses sudo, but as I am working on a cluster I do not have sudo rights.

I also installed fetchChromSizes, which works perfectly.
conda install -c bioconda ucsc-fetchchromsizes

What would be the appropriate way to use the wigToBigWig program on a cluster?

Thank you in advance!

Best,
Inez

Hi, Inez.

You could try downloading the pre-compiled binary directly from us here (https://hgdownload.soe.ucsc.edu/admin/exe/linux.x86_64/bigWigToWig) - that is the linux version. From our experience, conda should not be running into missing library errors as it builds them directly for your system. You could reach out to conda and they may have another solution for you.

Lastly, you could also contact your cluster administrators about the missing library (libssl.so.1.0.0), which they may be able to rectify. Let us know if you are still having issues and we can think of other solutions, such as building our utilities on the cluster via git (https://github.com/ucscGenomeBrowser/kent-core).

I hope this is helpful. Please include gen...@soe.ucsc.edu in any replies to ensure visibility by the team. All messages sent to that address are archived on our public forum. If your question includes sensitive information, you may send it instead to genom...@soe.ucsc.edu.

Hi Lou,

thank you for your reply! I indeed contacted the administrators about the missing library, and after a few tries I got it installed. So I have the working package now!

Thanks a lot for your help,
Inez
